A decade ago, the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the Isle Vista Casino comprised two of the top 10 employers in Bayfield County, providing 200 to 250 jobs. Those numbers are poised to grow as Red Cliff undertakes construction of a $23.5 million casino resort on the shore of Lake Superior.
After decades of planning, the Red Cliff tribe is set to move forward with a loan from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux. The project will create around 90 to 110 jobs upfront during peak construction, said Red Cliff tribal planner Randy Hella. Tribal members will (Red Cliff Gold)receive preference for those jobs. The resort will offer 300 slot machines and 50 rooms, and there’s space for growth.
“If things go well with this, we'll add another 50 rooms," Hella said. “We’ll do an event center that can seat 300. We’ll do weddings, small events, entertainment, seminars – any number of things.”
